About Torque
Torque (or moment of force) is the rotational equivalent of linear force. It measures how much a force causes an object to rotate around an axis.
Engine torque specs in the US are typically in ft·lb, while the rest of the world uses N·m. Car engines commonly produce 150–400 N·m of torque.
Pro Tips
Torque = Force × Lever arm length. Doubling the wrench length doubles the torque for the same applied force.
When using a torque wrench, always verify the specification unit — mixing ft·lb and N·m can under- or over-torque fasteners.
